Black Business Month

The Future of Black Wealth in Louisville

Coming upon the last week of Black Business Month, the question rises… ‘What can be done in the next 5 years to enhance and monetize black businesses in Louisville?’ As we saw right during the middle of the pandemic, black owned businesses were not only dramatically increased but has had a tremendous light shed on protection and support. So that leads us to wonder, will we look up one day and realize things are still the exact same? Our families are still torn apart. Income still not being generated within the black community. The people and laws in place that are supposed to protect and serve us are still failing us day by day.

Louisville loses community activist Chris Wells at the age of 33.  Known for helping to lead the protest to arrest the officers who killed Breonna Taylor. ‘Such a positive and passionate light gone too soon. As much as he lived to help us, lets continue to remember to help each other’.

For decades we have been fighting for these justices, building, being torn back down, over and over again. However, a major difference in today’s society is the internet. With the internet we have been able to spread light on not only the injustice but also the many remarkable talents and capabilities that we have as a people. So this leads to the question again: What are we going to do about it? What do we want for ourselves in the next 5 years?   It can be hard to unlearn the pain and traumatic behavior from our past but we can hold on to our future and continue to work on that now. We can start by making sure to be there for each other. When we notice something about each other, or even ourselves, reach out and say something. Ask for help. Hear each other when we need help. Because as we see, sometimes we are all we have. Although lets not forget that there are people that do not look like us who want to see us win as well. Let take advantage of these people and opportunities in a positive way. There are so many resources out right now that help educate us, help us financially and personally. Its up to us to be there for each other  so that even when obstacles or letdowns come around, we are still strong enough to keep moving but with a positive and loving heart.
